History

2009

The Swiss medical technology company fenik AG was founded in 2009.

fenik AG is a trading company and distribution partner of ewimed Germany and for the PleurX™ Catheter Drainage System, Denver Shunt and Safe-T-Centesis™ interventional systems from CareFusion BD.

2012

Managing Director Renate Marti and Area Manager Aline Chevalley are the points of contact for medical staff and patients.

The drainage sets for patients were included in the list of resources and items after extensive testing.

2014

Ms. Désirée Schneider and Mr. Martin Giroud have joined the fenik team to ensure service for patients, hospitals and clinics. The Area Managers advise doctors, offer further training for nursing staff, organize appointments and instruct patients at home. In addition, the area managers are the contact persons for hospital and clinic purchasing.

2016

Staff at many hospitals and clinics and patients appreciate the benefits of the PleurX™ catheter drainage system and the reliable service provided by fenik AG.

Following a doctor’s prescription, a fenik AG product specialist explains to the patient at home how to safely and easily insert the drains and change the dressing. Six (eight) full-time employees and seven (twelve) product specialists now work at fenik AG to ensure that patients receive instructions promptly after leaving hospital or clinic.

2018

Ms. Antonia Züger has been hired to strengthen the team of Area Managers. With Italian as her mother tongue, she is responsible for Ticino and Central Switzerland. A new service and internal sales department was set up under the management of Ms. Barbara Martinetz. Ms. Vanessa Marin and Ms. Michèle Häsler are now largely responsible for coordinating appointments, instructing patients at home or in the nursing home and dispatching the drainage sets prescribed by the doctor.

2020

In the year of the coronavirus pandemic, fenik AG’s products are an indispensable treatment option and additional protection against Covid-19 infection for immunocompromised and therefore particularly vulnerable people. If people are implanted with a tunneled indwelling catheter for the definitive treatment of pleural effusion and/or ascites, they no longer have to go to hospital or clinic regularly for punctures, but can perform the drainage at home as required.

As a result of a ruling by the EAMGK of the Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH), from April 2020 the costs of drainage sets for home use will only have to be partially reimbursed to patients by the compulsory health insurance.

2021

As a result of ewimed Switzerland AG’s intervention with the EAMGK of the Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH), the costs of drainage sets for home use will be fully reimbursed to patients by the compulsory health insurance from June 2021.

In June 2021, the Federal Council reclassified all means and objects into product categories A, B and C. For MiGeL products, which belong to category B, there are now two different HVBs (maximum reimbursement amounts). There will be an HVB for self-application for patients at home and an HVB for care that applies when recurring drainages and dressing changes are carried out in an institution.

2022

The company fenik AG changes its name and is called ewimed Switzerland AG from 26.07.2022!

The team, your contacts and our products with the corresponding service will remain unchanged for you and your patients.
