Performing the drainage ourselves enabled us to travel together once again.
My husband suffered from pleural effusion as a result of cancer. Thanks to the PleurX catheter, which enabled us to drain him ourselves, we were able to go on another trip together. We spent three weeks in Tenerife. The PleurX was a great relief for us and the time we spent together in Tenerife was an unforgettable experience.

... empathetic and emphatic support from ewimed
This year I had a catheter inserted for the second time to get the water out of my lungs. I remember the first time very well. Mrs. Glanzmann came to my home and calmly explained to me how I could do it myself. She was very empathetic and emphatic. The first two times were unfamiliar and then it went very well. The only thing is that I have to rely on my husband to put the plaster on me at the end. Ms. Glanzmann immediately stepped in when the health insurance company felt it didn’t have to cover the costs. She took care of everything in a very short time. I didn’t have to worry about anything.
Now I had to insert the catheter again. Of course, after almost a year I no longer knew exactly how to do it. But I was able to use the very good explanatory video on the website to refresh my memory. The only point is that you should have the option of ordering just the plaster. Otherwise you waste material unnecessarily.
Many thanks at this point to the excellent support provided by Ms. Glanzmann.

... keep the ground under your own feet.
My wife’s health was challenged when she had to have a pleural catheter inserted. Drainage and dressing changes were originally prescribed by the hospital to Spitex. Mrs. A. from ewimed arranged an introductory appointment with us at home immediately after leaving hospital to learn how to use the catheter professionally. My wife and I preferred not to be dependent on the Spitex times and their possibilities. So Mrs. A encouraged me to learn how to drain and change the dressings myself. It took me a little effort, but under her calm and competent guidance I was able to learn the necessary steps well. We are now happy that we can carry out the procedure according to my wife’s personal timing and needs and in a professionally correct manner.
In the time that followed, various questions arose about cost coverage and materials. Ms. S. from the sales force took the time to give me her competent answers. I felt that my questions were taken seriously. With the ewimed staff, I experience the stark difference compared to the hectic and overwhelmed hospital staff. All of this has helped us both to keep our feet on the ground in the face of our own challenges.
Thank you very much!

... I can do gardening work and ride my bike.
On November 4, 2021, a doctor at a medical outpatient clinic implanted a PleurX catheter in me. After receiving instructions from a product specialist from ewimed Switzerland AG at my home, I was able to regularly drain the pleural effusion and change the dressing together with my wife.
Now, 1.5 years later, I only have to drain the fluid once a week.
Despite the catheter, I can still do gardening work and ride my bike.
I am glad I chose the catheter.
I am very satisfied with the overall service provided by ewimed.

... my breathing became much easier.
The daily drainage of fluid from the chest cavity made it much easier for me to breathe. I dared to go for walks again and was able to enjoy my everyday life again despite my illness. After a few weeks, I noticed that water was also accumulating in my abdominal cavity. I was so satisfied with the first catheter that I had a second catheter inserted in my abdominal cavity. By regularly draining the water from my abdomen, my appetite also returned and my well-being and mobility improved again. The ewimed staff always answered my many questions about the drainage system very quickly and competently. An employee of ewimed Switzerland AG informed me and the Spitex at my home about how to carry out the drainage safely. I am very satisfied with ewimed’s service.

Asbestos is to blame...
Asbestos is to blame for the fact that water keeps building up next to my lungs and I can’t breathe properly as a result. At first, the doctors tried to glue the lungs together with talc during an operation, which is why I had to stay in hospital for a few days. Because this unfortunately didn’t work, I had to have the water punctured more and more frequently in hospital. Before the puncture and afterwards, because it was very painful, I was always very weak. Finally, a doctor implanted a permanent PleurX™ catheter in me on an outpatient basis under local anesthetic. At our request, my wife, son and I were visited at home the same day by a product specialist from ewimed Switzerland AG. Together with her, we were able to drain 800 ml of fluid without pain and then bandage the catheter with an inconspicuous waterproof dressing.

...I was very skeptical at first...
When the doctors suggested implanting a catheter, I was initially very skeptical and refused. However, the water accumulated faster and faster in my chest cavity and took away my ability to breathe, which is why I had to go to the hospital more often for punctures.
At the beginning of April, I decided to have the catheter after all and had the courage to go to a rock concert that I had been planning for a long time the following weekend. The nursing staff from the oncology outpatient clinic helped me and my partner with the first drainages. The company provided me with good documentation on how to perform the drains and change the dressings at home, which is why we can now easily do the drains ourselves as required.

...and my breathing becomes easier again.
A lung disease caused fluid to build up in my chest cavity, which made it difficult for me to breathe and so I had to have repeated punctures. In hospital, a doctor implanted an indwelling catheter in me as an outpatient. My husband and I were instructed by an ewimed employee at home on how to drain the fluid from my chest cavity every two days for about 20 minutes using special vacuum bottles, making it easier for me to breathe again. My husband and I do the drainage in a quiet minute when we have time. The catheter does not bother me in everyday life as it is well covered with a bandage and is not visible under clothing. In the meantime, the fluid is only aspirated every 3rd day.

I need less help from others...
For several weeks now, I have been developing 4 – 7 liters of ascites (abdominal fluid) every week due to a tumor. The side effects such as balance problems, shortness of breath and nausea were always so distressing due to the amount of fluid that my daughter had to take me to the hospital every week for a puncture. Three weeks ago, the doctors recommended that I have a permanent PleurX™ catheter implanted. After receiving training from an employee of ewimed Switzerland AG at home, my daughter can now drain the ascites easily and safely from time to time. I need less help and support from others as I am more mobile again and have more strength.
